This is a Perkins braillewriter. It looks like a typewriter but only has nine keys. All students learn braille using this type of braillewriter. As students become proficient we explore other types of braille devices that have electronic capabilities. One such device, called a Braillenote, can access the internet, emails, and word processing programs!

AppliancesEvery aspect of my classroom must be accessible for my students. Independent Living Skills are part of my curriculum so when we do cooking lessons, all appliances must be accessible. I have labeled aspects of the microwave, toaster oven, and even the stove so that my students can be as independent as possible. The devices shown both have tactile markings and braille.
